Optimizing Product H2 Tags for SEO with ChatGPT

There is indeed a solution for automating the creation and optimization of heading tags (H1 and H2) for product pages. It’s not very well known yet, but it’s incredibly powerful and effective.


For the H1 tag, on a standard theme, the product name is used.


For H2 tags, you need to include them in the long description and, above all, avoid using the names of the tabs (“Description,” “Features,” “Reviews,” etc.). If that’s the case, you’ll need to make a slight modification to the product.tpl file.


How do you choose the H1 and H2 tags? If you have relatively few products, this can be done manually, product by product, but what if you have a lot?


In that case, starting in 2023, with Merlin Backoffice Flex, you can ask ChatGPT (or another AI) to lend a hand. All you need to do is write a prompt (“a request”) that will apply to all existing descriptions, i.e., in bulk.

In this prompt, Merlin will feed ChatGPT the content—specifically, the description (which varies) for each product—along with any other information deemed useful (such as the supplier reference, the product name, a feature, a URL for additional information, a list of keywords, etc.) and we ask the AI to optimize the description by adding H2 and H3 headings for SEO (we can also take this opportunity to ask it to correct errors, for example, or to bold words important for SEO. There’s really no limit).


In a second step, you can then ask the AI to optimize product names in the same way.


The main advantage of this parametric prompt approach is the speed it offers when working in batches.
