Mass editing tools for PrestaShop

Merlin Backoffice integrates several mass editing tools for PrestaShop. Depending on what you want to achieve, the type of column or data to be modified or filled in, you need to know how to choose the most suitable one.

The oldest, but still very practical, is the modifier by calculation. It allows you to perform operations such as add, subtract, divide, multiply and replace, in value or percentage, on the main numerical columns (price, weight, quantity...). Like "Increase all sales prices by 10% on a list of 1000 products".
Its greatest asset is its speed. Mass modifications to thousands of products or variations can be made in less than 10 seconds.
The modifier by calculation is accessible from the "Grouped Actions" buttons, after selecting the lines to be modified.

You can also copy and paste a value taken from any column, to hundreds of other items. Once again, it's super-fast. As a reminder, all you have to do is click and believe on the value to be copied and use the contextual menu that opens.

There are also plenty of mass management functions specific to each tab of the tool, such as quick image import, mass keyword or supplier association, declination generator, product number duplicator, tool to create mass specific prices, or to round them off.... For these, see the sections dedicated to these subjects in our knowledge base.

On this page, we're going to focus on two generic tools, focntionning in all tabs and tables, introduced in Merlin from version 1.5:

  • MagicEdit, which uses a form to intuitively select the actions to be performed. Mainly designed for mass editing of text, this tool has evolved and now works on all types of data.
  • MagicFormula requires you to enter a formula, either mathematical or string management, so it's a little more technical, but offers infinite possibilities.
The two tools are therefore highly complementary, and it would be a great shame to miss out on either of them.

Note that the tuto below on MagicFormula, starts by reminding you how to use the simpler mass editing features, such as the modifier by calculation.
